Bakkwa with a Twist in Vancouver

For the last 30 years, Philip and Soo Wong have been supplying “Bakkwa” in Vancouver to homesick Southeast Asians hankering after New Year treats.

The squares of grilled meat from their company, Soo Jerky, may look familiar to Malaysians but they come with a Canadian twist. In addition to the usual pork, they also produce beef and salmon versions of the tender, caramelized snack.

The Wongs grew up in Malaysia.
